…wait, this just in! a cool picture of baseball hall of fame legend, and dodger great tommy lasorda…with his dad!

tommy-jack-edit.jpg
Yikes… i think tommy looks younger than me… oh hell…Lasorda was on the adam carolla show today, and i never usually ask for a photo with the guests but I love tommy. I’ve met him before at the professional baseball scouts dinner and he is the coolest dude on the planet. always willing to tell a story, take a picture, sign a baseball. some of these other yahoo’s could take a lesson from the skipper. What’s so freakin hard about spending a few minutes with true fans of what you do. Anywho, great way to start the morning…running into Lasorda in the studios of 971 fm talk… beats the hell out of another golf shot, dont you know… Go Dodgers…..

…holy crap… it’s been almost a month that i rambled on this thing…. and even though i don’t have any cool pictures to share this time, here goes! First off, best wishes to our long time general mangler, Bob Moore, who has moved on to a different radio station in los angeles. Not that you as a listener would know bob, unless you heard him on the air or met him at one of our many events, but he’ll be missed. So I think that means I’m in charge! Yikes… never want a middle aged, tequila swilling program director running the show…but guess what? you got it! The air staff continues to amaze with ratings and revenue…and you can start with the midday trio of Frosty, Heidi and Frank who have been on a ratings tear since September. #1 With Men 18-54! same with the Professor tom Leykis… and the Carolla show has never sounded better. Oh, and if you like what you hear, you’re gonna love what you see as we’ve started “Webcast Wednesdays”…where we crank up the video cameras in the Carolla and FHF studios so you can listen and watch the shows on line…in the privacy of your own cubicle! Other than that, we also welcome listeners from Indie 103.1…. i guess they went espanol..so if you used to listen to that music… spend some more time with a little fm hot talk… Ouch, the carpol tunnel syndrome is kicking in again..so, can’t type much more…bye…ouch….

….another picture of you favorite fm talk programmer on the golf course? damn…if i spent as much time progamming the station as i do on the links…we’d be on easy street. lol. it’s just that on a january afternoon, when the weather is sunny and 75… why not hit the course? right? right?

anywho, this is one of my favorite places on planet earth. it’s the 13th hole, a par 5, at malibu country club. the picture doesn’t really do the hole justice..in that the fairway is about 100 yards or so below the tee box… and the view from right to left is just amazing… with the ocean the to right about 5 miles or so… i love that spot…

As for radio? conway poker tourney this thursday night…then, frosty heidi and frank at morongo casino the 23rd…and plenty of big game parties on feb 1st.. keep listening for more details..and i’ll keep posting self serving pictures from my golf outings…k???

Welcome to 2009

happy 2009 peeps… not much to write about yet…but here’s another cool picture…

jackgolffog.jpg

here’s what happens when you favorite program director goes golfing…in the freakin’ fog! first four or five holes was like this… you actually golf better because you just concentrate on hitting the ball straight..then the fun is trying to find the ball..

and isn’t this shot actually a metaphor for life??? meaning, “what the hell is out there, anyway”? type of thing? just hit the ball..and hope it lands in the right spot… that’s the way I program radio stations (lol)… is that how you approach life too? f it! don’t worry about the fog in front of you… just hit it straight..and good things will happen. kind of creepy, I know.. but thanks to geoff nathanson for getting the picture of me on the links…
late…

Happy New Year!

December 31st, 2008 by klsx

….here I sit on the last day of 2008…  writing the last blog of the year… and what a year it’s been.  It’s been a wild ride in the radio industry.  and we’re damn proud to beAmerica’s number one rated FM Talk radio station!  More people are listening to the station on air, on line, on I phones..via podcasts than ever before.  But i totally get it..when you have great exclusive content like Adam Carolla, Frosty, Heidi and Frank, Bonaduce, Tom Leykis and Tim Conway Jr…oh, and the John and Jeff show…it’s easy to see why our total listening went thru the roof in the ‘08.  Now…the best picture of all time…. check this out…      This is what happens when your favorite program director goes to Green Bay, WI for the holidays.  It was 11 degrees and 6 inches of snow when i turned the camera around and took this picture..  How people live in this area is beyond me… but that;’s why it’s good to be home.  I hope you have an amazing new year…and a successful ‘09.  Starting Monday, all the hot talkers will be back in the air chair with fresh shows..and great new content for you whether you listen on air, on line, podcast…etc….  Happy New Year… Jack.

….okay knuckleheads…. time for more ramblings from the guy who runs this looney bin…First off.. to the dude who e mailed Frosty Heidi and Frank complaining that I never mention them in my blog…here goes:  The Triplets are on Fire!  Now in their 9th year on the station, FHF are arguably the best midday show in America.  Shows are funny, topical, relatable and perfect to listen to while you are in the car … or listening on your computer.  Other than that b.s., don’t have much on the calendar for them other than a live broadcast from Universal Studios Hollywood.  Oh, that reminds me…  effective now, Saturdays on 97.1 FM Talk will now feature your favorite weekday shows…on a 6th day.  Carolla, FHF and Tom Leykis will now all be on Saturdays for your listening enjoyment.   The holidays are always a good time around here…winding down the year…
Most of the shows will be on vacation between Christmas and new years….so it gives you a chance to catch up on some of the stuff you may have missed… Got to go,
need to keep an ear on the product …for you.  If I space and don’t post another one of these babies, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year…to you and your peeps…
bye

John & Jeff Party and more

November 14th, 2008 by klsx

What up dawgs!  2008 is slowly fading into the sunset…. but at the radio ranch, it’s pedal to the metal time until the new year gets here.  First, here’s a picture of me…with the John and Jeff show at their 10th anniversary party.

34579941.jpg

The third shift dudes are unsung on our station…holding down the late night shift for a decade.  It was great hanging out with them..and their fans in Marina del Rey.  Great week on air with all the shows… I loved hearing Artie Lange on the Adam Carolla show.  I miss Howard Stern on our station…but now that he’s in satellite hell, I can’t support that stuff… but it’s always good to get a little taste of the old days.

Carolla has really be on fire lately on air and in the ratings…so it’s all good.  Speaking of “smoking”, Tom Leykis has never sounded better.  Tom’s been speeding up the pace of the show..adding more variety in the topics…and we shortened the commercials breaks.  Check it out if you haven’t yet.  Next Friday 11/21 is gonna be a busy one…with our annual “Stuff a Truck” food drive starting on Friday morning… and running all weekend at the Smart and Final in west l.a.  Bring some food or money to feed the needy this holiday season.

And in the afternoon, Leykis will be broadcasting live from the Quiet Cannon in Montebello…  I love that area…60 Freeway at Garfield….  Tom hasn’t done a live broadcast since Cinco e Mayo…so meet us there.  The Cazadores Tequila will be a flowin’….  As always, I appreciate you reading this gobbilty goop… and listening to the radio station.

Happy Holidays…  Thanksgiving and Christmas too…

Blotto in the Grotto

November 3rd, 2008 by klsx

Wow… what a week… that Halloween thing is a killer! Beside the usual trick or treating stuff, the Adam Carolla “Blotto in the Grotto” event was a 10 on a scale of 1-10!
Here is a shot of my costume this year…  I  think everybody liked it… kind of silly…but anything relating to the Program Director’s private area is a home run.

Make sure you check out all the shots from the show on our web site…cause there were some good ones.  And a huge shout out to Steel Panther, (formally Metal Skool) who performed live after Adam finished his show.  Nothing like some 80’s-90’s Hair Band music to get a party to a new level.

This week is our annual Think Tank, where all the talk show hosts will be on the air for four hours with Frosty, Heidi and Frank…  that’s this Friday @ 10.  Oh, and there’s a little thing called “The Presidential Election” and Tom Leykis will hang out on the air all day and night until this one is decided.  Check him out because in my opinion, Tom has taken his show to a new level with this political stuff..

Finally, when your favorite program director (that’s me) isn’t slaving over some hot talk airchecks, he likes to golf.. here’s a picture of me recently playing a little golf at Mountaingate CC….  when a few deer decided to hang out with the Jack Man.   Good news?  he recommended the right club…   Nothing like a little wildlife to make your day…

Thanks for reading this…

Halloween

October 28th, 2008 by klsx

….this is my favorite time of year!  Between now and Christmas, it’s nothing but good times… and the radio station is very busy.  This week, it’s Adam Carolla’s annual, “Blotto in the Grotto” party and live broadcast.  Hope you won some tickets on the air…if not, listen to the replay of the show Friday morning… and I’ll post a picture of my costume here next week.  I always do something a little “racy” just to give Ace Carolla something to talk about.  This year, no exception… check back to see the picture.

Then, this Friday from 10A-2P, Frosty, Heidi and Frank do their annual Halloween costume show…where the triplets dress up …and we webcast the show from their studios here on the Miracle Mile.  The trio always wear some creative costumes… even if they are a little bit tasteless..but who cares!  I hope you’ve been catching the new and improved Tom Leykis show… with less commercials…more phone calls and broader topics!  Thank god for this little presidential election… cause the Professor has never be more “right on” with his show.  Oh, and if that ain’t enough Halloween stuff, Tim Conway Jr. will be live at the Queen Mary in Long Beach this Friday night for a broadcast.

Check it out…  Raider Nation, keep the faith too… the games sound great on our station.. now, if we can get a few more wins…that would be great… You are great for reading this nonsense…I appreciate it… keep listening too… bye
