Jack in the Studio

then, that’s me and the red rocker sammy hagar at the station. I still love that music today..in fact, i’m gonna see sammy and the scorps in orange county in august. (my two favorite bands)…

Jack with Sammy Hagar

My old stuff…

For some reason, people are digging my old stuff…so i came across some early jack silver shots that should bore the crap out of any normal person..but not you! Here is a shot of me and jon bon jovi and richie sambora. must have been the late 80’s while working for rick dees. That’s why i’m such a fan of the band today…these guys were so cool during their in studio visit…not like other a holes in the music biz. the other shot is when i got music director of the year in ‘88 at kiis. kind of easy winning an award when you’re working at the #1 station in the country for top 40 music.. anywho, hope you enjoy laughing at the bad mustache shots… peace out…

what time is it???

it’s blog time… wasn’t that a morris day song???  but i digress…. another great week at the fm talk blowtorch…leading up to a holiday weekend.  the fact that it’s already memorial day is mind boggling!  before i get to the radio stuff, if ever, let’s start with my lakers!  as much as it gives a bump to the crappy sports stations in town, i love when the lakers are in the playoffs.  it’s some excellent basketball and it gives me a chance to head to a local watering hole, grab a bar stool and watch the game with a frosty beverage in hand.  As for American Idol and Dancing with the Stars, I’m glad that stuff is over..although the rocker dude who won Idol was kind of cool.  Good to see a rocker get some love on that show instead of a bunch of powder puff pop singers..and country bumpkins.  As far as radio goes, Tim Conway Jr is on vacation and danny bonaduce has been doing double duty on air.  The ‘duce has been a great addition to our station…Look for Sam Phillips and her green buds to fill in some nights as well.  Judd Nelson, C Thomas Howell and Pauly Shore are gonna strap on the microphone with Sammy P.  Alright, here’s a memorial day bar b que tip:  McCormick’s Cinnamon Chipotle rub on tri tip!  I know it comes out of a jar…but the sh*t is excellent.  Have a safe holiday weekend…and if you’re gonna drive?  take the car…. see ya next week…and thanks for reading this… i mean, you have waaaay toooo much time on your hands.

this is priceless

somebody recently sent me this picture of me from my early radio days - it’s posted in the KSHE museum in St. Louis. Seems I’m a radio legend…even if i’m too young to be one… jacksilver.jpg

Vacation Time!

Friday, May 9th, 2008

image001.jpgthank the good lord…i’m going on vacation next week!  so i thought i’d hit the keyboard and ramble on about radio and other crap.  First off, where would a program director go on vacation???  none of your beeswax… cause i don’t want the crooks in my neighborhood to know i’m not gonna be home. even though the piled up newspapers and jammed mailbox are kind of a dead giveaway, but luckily I have a heavily armed gun man with his rabid pit bull guarding the casa so bring it on foo!

What about radio, you say???  I’m just damned glad to be running this crazy spot on the dial.  When I listen up and down the dial, it seems like everybody is in “treading water” mode.  We are winding down the spring ratings period… which ends in mid june so it’s my job to keep “going to the whip” on the thoroughbreds!  Meaning, keep feeding The Triplets booze and making sure Danny Bonaduce has plenty of energy drink…  Other than that, it’s all about the Lakers… and we ain’t no bandwagon here.  Laker fan for life…and this team is sooo much fun to watch.  Find a bar stoll this weekend and back the purple and gold.  See ya when I get back…unless i get a good tequila buzz and hit the keyboard from the road.  Peace…

Great time this week at our Cinco de Mayo!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

…damn is it that time again??? blog update time???? soo funny this morning on the adam carolla show with adam talking about bloggers. His point was how self centered do you have to be to think that your ramblings would be of interest to anybody…and that now, even people like Tila Tequila sound interesting because they scribble some nonsense on a web site posting. That said, I appreciate you even liking this stuff… and have had people tell me that it is mildly interesting. So here goes…

ummmmmmmmmmmmm. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Not a lot to say… oh, wait, great time this week at our Cinco de Mayo broadcasts. Started with The Triplets and Bonaduce in Irvine. Good looking group in the O.C. and the shows were great. I live in Los Angeles so it took me about 2 hours to get home..but I always like to bring the station to where you live so what’s 120 minutes in traffic??? Adam Carolla hosted a live webcast on May 5th complete with Ozzie cooking carne asada, and other traditional Mexican food. Ozwald should open a freakin’ restaurant…that’s how good his stuff is. Then, Leykis at Camacho’s in the city of Industry was a home run too. 2500 people thru the door to see the Professor do his thing on stage. I love that venue and the fans that show up. Die hard Leykis fans who listen to tom all afternoon in English, and then, when the Mariachi’s play, they sing along in Spanish to every word. Even had our first “spokes model fist fight”! Seems a couple of gals from competing gentleman’s clubs got into an argument that turned into a scene! Couple of punches here, some air pulling there…and we separating the combatants and escorted them from the venue. Classic… the dudes were well behaved, but the gals threw down.

Gotta go…have a much bigger name on the other line… I think the NastyMan is calling from Guam…. gtg
