Wow… what a week… that Halloween thing is a killer! Beside the usual trick or treating stuff, the Adam Carolla “Blotto in the Grotto” event was a 10 on a scale of 1-10!
Here is a shot of my costume this year…  I  think everybody liked it… kind of silly…but anything relating to the Program Director’s private area is a home run.

Make sure you check out all the shots from the show on our web site…cause there were some good ones.  And a huge shout out to Steel Panther, (formally Metal Skool) who performed live after Adam finished his show.  Nothing like some 80’s-90’s Hair Band music to get a party to a new level.

This week is our annual Think Tank, where all the talk show hosts will be on the air for four hours with Frosty, Heidi and Frank…  that’s this Friday @ 10.  Oh, and there’s a little thing called “The Presidential Election” and Tom Leykis will hang out on the air all day and night until this one is decided.  Check him out because in my opinion, Tom has taken his show to a new level with this political stuff..

Finally, when your favorite program director (that’s me) isn’t slaving over some hot talk airchecks, he likes to golf.. here’s a picture of me recently playing a little golf at Mountaingate CC….  when a few deer decided to hang out with the Jack Man.   Good news?  he recommended the right club…   Nothing like a little wildlife to make your day…

….this is my favorite time of year!  Between now and Christmas, it’s nothing but good times… and the radio station is very busy.  This week, it’s Adam Carolla’s annual, “Blotto in the Grotto” party and live broadcast.  Hope you won some tickets on the air…if not, listen to the replay of the show Friday morning… and I’ll post a picture of my costume here next week.  I always do something a little “racy” just to give Ace Carolla something to talk about.  This year, no exception… check back to see the picture.

Then, this Friday from 10A-2P, Frosty, Heidi and Frank do their annual Halloween costume show…where the triplets dress up …and we webcast the show from their studios here on the Miracle Mile.  The trio always wear some creative costumes… even if they are a little bit tasteless..but who cares!  I hope you’ve been catching the new and improved Tom Leykis show… with less commercials…more phone calls and broader topics!  Thank god for this little presidential election… cause the Professor has never be more “right on” with his show.  Oh, and if that ain’t enough Halloween stuff, Tim Conway Jr. will be live at the Queen Mary in Long Beach this Friday night for a broadcast.

somebody recently sent me this picture of me from my early radio days - it’s posted in the KSHE museum in St. Louis. Seems I’m a radio legend…even if i’m too young to be one…  

thank the good lord…i’m going on vacation next week!  so i thought i’d hit the keyboard and ramble on about radio and other crap.  First off, where would a program director go on vacation???  none of your beeswax… cause i don’t want the crooks in my neighborhood to know i’m not gonna be home. even though the piled up newspapers and jammed mailbox are kind of a dead giveaway, but luckily I have a heavily armed gun man with his rabid pit bull guarding the casa so bring it on foo! 

What about radio, you say???  I’m just damned glad to be running this crazy spot on the dial.  When I listen up and down the dial, it seems like everybody is in “treading water” mode.  We are winding down the spring ratings period… which ends in mid june so it’s my job to keep “going to the whip” on the thoroughbreds!  Meaning, keep feeding The Triplets booze and making sure Danny Bonaduce has plenty of energy drink…  Other than that, it’s all about the Lakers… and we ain’t no bandwagon here.  Laker fan for life…and this team is sooo much fun to watch.  Find a bar stoll this weekend and back the purple and gold.  See ya when I get back…unless i get a good tequila buzz and hit the keyboard from the road.  Peace…

…. you know a killer place for lunch???  Versailles, the Cuban restaurant!  Just ate there with tom Leykis…and I forgot how much that place rocks.  seriously, the garlic chicken thing they have is insane…and for ten bucks.  Think they have locations in culver city and the valley…. I ain’t no food critic…just a guy who likes food.  (hmm I like that).  You know what sucks???  the top deck at dodger stadium!  took my kid there for our baseball league night and we had the cheapo 9 dollar seats at the very top of the stadium.  First, you have to walk up about a million stairs…then, you feel like you’re gonna fall straight down.  And when the lights came on, because you are so close to the roof, a billion flying bugs attack you!  I love the Dodgers but next time, gonna splurge for the good seats. 

Any who… didja see those ratings????  The results of the winter ratings period came out this week and the little ol FM talk station kick some ass.  We don’t have the teens like KIIS, or the grandmas like KFI, but when it comes to Men and Adults 18 to 54?  well, how does number one sound.  Really proud of the Adam Carolla show …now ranked 4th with Men 25-54.  Have you seen the Ace Man’s Taco Bell commercial?  very cool.  Frosty, Heidi and Frank and Danny B had a great book as well notching a #2 rank with Men. Tom Leykis is #1 with Men in so cal…and nights even posted a 6th ranking.  How bout them apples???  f the apples, how bout them ratin’s!

Hope I make it thru the Cinco de mayo weekend.  FHF in Irvine on dos de mayo, and Leykis in the City of industry on the 5th!  All of our station events are free… so you are more than welcome to come and hang.  It’s fun to see the shows live in person… and you can grab a cerveza or tequila drink too..  Adios Amigo…. and feliz Cinco de Mayo!

..back at this blog thing again… who knew i’d be the hit of cyberspace… more people mention this blog to me, than…oh, than other stuff… anywho, first off, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” is an f’ing funny ass movie i saw last night.  Leo the film freak has been touting this movie since he went to a press screening a month ago.  The premise is some dork is dating some hot TV actress, who dumps him for a british rock star a hole..  So when the sad sack can’t deal with getting dumped, he hops a plan to Hawaii and of course stays at the same hotel as his ex.  The british dude stole the show for me… and the dark haired chick in the movie is on fire….but the writing is hilarious.  Best movie since “The Hammer”.  check it out..  Oh, you came here for Radio??? hmmm… let’s see, everybody is waiting for the release  of the winter ratings period next monday…. I know it’s almost summer but that’s how these bozo’s who rate radio stations operate.

Looking for a good report card in that Carolla was on DWTS (i can’t even bring myself to say the name of that lame ass show anymore), FHF have been on fire, Bonaduce is running a clinic, Leykis has never sounded better on the air and is happy as a clam in high tide off the air with his new digs in SB, and I miss brian whitman too, but Tim Conway and friends are having great shows as well.  As for the other stations in LA?  it’ll be spanish, spanish, spanish atop the leader board… but I like the CBS stations for success like KROQ, Jack, the Wave and K Earth…with the two news stations really picking up the pace.  Gotta go… there’s a bagel and coffee with my name on it.. best bagel place???

St. Urbain’s on Beverly drive in B Hills… get the Malange bagel with Jalapeno cream cheese and sprouts and cucumbers….   Who the heck would read the ramblings of a Program Director???  oh, sorry…. you… lol…

…okay….should a major market program director be rocking out to steel panther, formally metal skool, until one in the morning at the key club on the sunset strip???

well that’s what happened last night…  I thought i was just going for an early dinner and to check out a hot new buzz band called “Petty Cash”… which is a bunch of cool musician’s playing tom petty and johnny cash songs.  Pink was in the crowd and got on stage… and sang with the band.  I had a couple of sauza’s and gave Pink some post divorce dating advice.  Yikes.  Should have left after that…but, no!  Had to rock out with the best party band in l.a. on a monday night…  Radio?  oh, yeah.

What’s going on in the radio world…  I love the new Conway and friends show with Tim Conway Jr.  I know a lot of fans miss brian whitman on the show… I do too..but Tim is doing an amazing job having cool guests and guest hosts on his show.  Kerri Kasem, Aresenio Hall, Sam Phillips and Danny Bonaduce are sounding great…check it out…. Leykis is on fire by the way…the best sounding show on the radio…. I love his take on the new 100.3 station, K-White!  Getting ready for Cinco de mayo.  The professor will be at Camnacho’s again…and Frosty Heidi and Frank will be the O.C…..  keep listening to the station for more details… ouch, my hand hurts …gtg…

…..  oh yeah, I have to give you an update on me!  good English… any who, back at the keyboard for another rambling episode of jack’s blog…. a little hazy today after going to bon jovi last night at staples center.  As you know, the film freak and I love to sing the hits from Bon Jovi at the various karaoke bars around l.a…..but this was the real deal. Song list for the show was pretty good… and the guy can still rock.  Just kinda weird seeing so many chunky gals into his country music trying to rock out to “Living on a Prayer”.  Okay…now, how about some radio stuff. I think Adam got 4 great weeks out of the dancing show…which was amazing for his popularity outside of los angeles, the man show, love line and his morning show.  I think the producers of that show were stupid for letting him get voted off…because he was the only star with some personality…  If I was running that thing, I would have booted off a few others before Adam for no other reason than the dude has a top rated morning show in the #1 media market in the world.  Might milk that a bit…but okay.  Now, back to the radio show which is sounding great.  That Adam Carolla is one funny dude.  Oh… nobody know but 100.3 The Beat changed to some kind of rock station…and it’s dreadful.  I never understand how people try to program radio stations in los angeles, and forget about the cultural diversity of our area.  If that thing works… then, I’m the king of Panama!  Does Panama have a king??? oh well..  gonna park my ass in front of the tv this weekend and watch the Masters golf tourney.  Know its lame…golf on tv, but I dig it…and I dig you reading this garbage….  Blogs!  They’re red hot…. yuk

sorry peeps… been a few days since I updated this thing… but you know how time flies when you’re having fun…  Things are really rolling on the FM Talk blowtorch… what with the Ace Man on the #2 show in the country.  We love all the publicity that Adam Carolla is getting on the show…but is it just me or is that one tough show to watch???? I mean, YIKES….it is ponderous, f’ing ponderous!  Makes you just want to switch the channel and watch wrestling or some cage fighting.  Oh well… it is exposing our morning show to millions of people every night so I ain’t bitching…. oh wait, yes I am.  Either way, it’s good times…oh, and the chick that Adam is dancing with is red hot.  I guess that makes it a little easier to stomach…what a hot babe!  Back to radio…  glad we didn’t do any stupid April fool’s stuff this year…don’t know what the other stations did but it’s usually kinda lame… I did have an idea to bring Danny Bonaduce back on the morning show…saying that Adam was fired ..but nobody bit on that idea.  Oh, and we’re getting a lot of questions regarding the night show..and the departure of Brian Whitman.

Not a lot of stuff to say other than we wish Brian well as he moves on to his next gig.  Working now on stepping up the game of Tim Conway Jr. and the night staff.  Check it out when you can… And the fact that the first quarter is over…and it’s spring time is insane.  If you like motor sports, you’ll be happy to know that The Speed Freaks are back on 97.1 on Sunday nights at 7 following the tasting room with tom Leykis.  GTG…  my carpol tunnel syndrome is acting up with all this typing… thanks for reading this blog…. must be bored….  lol… 

Another week coming to a close…. let’s see what is rolling around in the old melon that I can share with you.. first off, gonna be a cool weekend for 97.1 starting with a special “Hammer” edition of the film freak show  saturday night @7P. Leo is gonna welcome adam carolla for a behind the scenes look at adam’s new movie that opens in theaters next week. In addition to the on air portion, we’re gonna “web cast” the event as well…  so remember to fire up your computer saturday night so you can watch the studio action when leo and ace go one on one for the hammer special. Then, monday is st patrick’s day….  and frosty, heidi and frank are hosting their annual “in studio” st; patty’s day broadcast…complete with another webcast!  You’ll be able to watch the action from your computer at work…. check it out at www.971freefm.com.  It’s gonna be a big week too with adam on dancing with the stars…  I think ace is dancing on Monday night to set your tivo for that …. this has been good for carolla because of all the free publicity he is getting….  spread the word. And speaking of TV shows, go to www.vh1.com and check out the previews of Danny Bonaduce’s new tv show called, “My kid is a star”….  it looks amazing…  Danny works with kids and their crazy parents.  gonna be another home run for the ‘duce. Have a great weekend…and thanks for reading this blog…. and listening to our station…..  late!
